For a variety of reasons many pupils struggle with areas of basic maths such as deciamls, fractions,percentages, averages etc. The difficulties are only compounded when calculations are presented in written context, or as word problems. This book provides a very structured route to help those who are struggling to understand the concept and then tackle the word problem. The book starts with a number of general general word problems dealing with simple addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. The bidea is togive students some early success with simple word problems and also familiarise them with the format that is used in the book. The sections that follow deal with specific areas such as decimals, percentages, fractions, money, averages and measurement. The first stage stage comes under the heading of Getting to Grips with...... This involves step by step activiti4es to help improve understanding.
